Pirates of the Shining South
Transcendent Water of the Rumbling River
River has many siblings and comes from a riverside clan in the jungles of Chult which is ruled over by a warlord who was said to serve a powerful jaguar lord. River and several in his hunt, including a few brothers and sisters, led a uprising against the warlord and fled many years ago, leaving the warlord’s pursuers far behind. Most went their own separate ways since then and haven’t made contact with each other. As an adventurous spirit, River sees this current leg of his journey as another chapter in his epic and is fascinated with all of the wonders that the world outside of his clan brings.
Still, the slavery he experienced back in his clan exists out here and it troubles him when it presents itself. After all, freedom is to be protected and relished, dreams should be pursued, and everyone should be respected if they preserve those freedoms – no matter their race. Those who oppress others should be taken down a peg in the world or taken out of it if need be. There are several instances in his travels where River has taken to protecting the freedoms of people that he meets. Usually it goes well … sometimes not. The enemies he has made because of his tendencies – both small and large – are short lived in his memory. Even the warlord that ruled over him years ago is an occasional afterthought.
